A public defendant (lawyer) is appointed by the district court. A suspect has the right to be appointed a public defendant and also has the right to request the public defendant he or she desires. A public defendant ensures that a suspect is treated fairly in interactions with the police, prosecutors, and the court. A public defendant should be present during police questioning and any other important interrogations.
Have you been a victim of a crime?
A complainant’s counsel is a special legal counsel appointed by the public court of general jurisdiction for those who have been a victim of a crime. The legal counsel will represent your interests and be a support for you as victim of a crime. The legal counsel will also assist you in bringing civil action (damage claims) resulting from the crime. You have the possibility to request a specific lawyer as your legal counsel.
Special representatives for children are appointed by the district court. Children who are victims of crime are entitled to a special representative who shall represent the child's interests at the preliminary investigation and in court. The special representative shall ensure that children receive the just compensation to which they are entitled to.
You can also hire us as private legal counsel. In some situations, the court may decide that a defendant or plaintiff is not entitled to a court appointed public defender. In such situations, you have the right to hire a private attorney, but will be responsible for all attorney fees and costs.
